FEED THE NEED

         Combating Hunger on the Auraria Campus

 

The Hunger Banquet is the official kick-off event for our Feed the Need program. Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in this interactive event. A complimentary dinner will be provided. The purpose of the Hunger Banquet is to raise consciousness on issues of hunger and poverty. Participants will gain a better understanding on hunger issues as they relate to our campus community. Advance registration is required. 5:00pm in Tivoli 440

A campus-wide food drive competition will take place from January 28th to February 28th. Student organizations as well as academic and administrative departments from all three institutions are invited to participate. The food collected throughout the event will directly benefit our campus food pantries. Groups will have one month to collect as many non-perishable food items to be delivered on collection day. We encourage you to challenge another organization or department in a friendly competition. Prizes will be awarded to groups that collect the most food! A ‘how to’ workshop for individuals who are interested in taking advantage of food related resources. Representatives from Hunger Free Colorado, MetroCareRing, WIC, and others will be on hand to help ypu understand their programs, learn if you are eligible for services, and navigate the process for receiving food benefits. This workshop is open to all. No advance registration required.

Creative Cooking on the Cheap

Making (healthy) meals with inexpensive pantry items can be quite the challenge. This workshop will include information on how to get the most nutritious ‘bang for your food bank buck’ as well as a cooking demonstration with an emphasis on the types of items that you are likely to find in a food pantry. Participants will eat a meal together that they have learned how to cook, and will also leave with the ingredients to make another meal on their own. Advance registration is required.
